Caramelized Onion Dip (Gluten Free & Low Carb)

Caramelized onion dip is made with fresh caramelized onions, sour cream and mayo. The perfect dip for parties, entertaining or anytime.

Ingredients

Caramelized Onions:

  • 2 large yellow onions chopped
  • 1 ½ tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • ½ tsp. dried thyme
  • sprinkle of salt on onions
  • 1 tbsp. balsamic vinegar

Dip:

  • 1 ½ cups sour cream
  • ¼ cup mayo
  • ½ tsp. garlic powder
  • ½ tsp. onion powder
  • ½ tsp. dried parsley flakes
  • salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Melt butter and olive oil over medium heat in cast iron skillet and add chopped onions.
  • Cook about 4-6 minutes. Then add dried thyme, a sprinkle of salt over onions and stir.
  • Continue to cook and stir checking frequently approximately 20 more minutes.
  • Then add balsamic vinegar, stir and remove from heat to cool.
  • Put cooled caramelized onions in a bowl along with remaining dip ingredients and combine.
  • Cover and refrigerate a minimum of 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Taste for salt & pepper prior to serving and add if necessary.
